{We are family}

Just for the record,
I started this post 2 weeks ago and and haven't been able to finish it....until now.
I'm not a writer.
(So I should stick to short and sweet posts)
I have a short attention span.
(So that's where Luke gets it!)
I'm a procrastinator
(If it weren't for tomorrow, I'd never get anything done!)

I just love these kids.
They are similar yet different in so many ways
and the older they get, the more I see their different personalities blossom.
Riley is growing up so fast. I noticed that she and I are starting to have more conversations.  Sometimes it feels like communication with the kids is either correction, instruction or answering questions (with some yelling in there too).  But lately with Riley, it's been real conversation.  The kind that makes me see inside her heart and mind a little more.  I love it.  I love HER. She is testing the water with sarcasm.  When I say "testing", I mean sometimes it's funny and other times it is rude.  I guess it's my job to laugh when it's appropriate and correct her when it's rude.

Luke is a funny kid.  Right now he's in between that cute little boy stage and big kid stage.....which means he's in an awkward, goofy, silly, not sure where he fits in stage. He has a unique sense of humor.  Right now, typical of boys his age, it's all "potty humor".   I was helping him with a math word problem one night and it was about sorting nuts.  Every time I said the word "nuts" he giggled.  Then I started giggling because he was and then we both ended up laughing so hard we were crying.  He is still talking about that night.
You can't say "cup" anymore without him thinking of his baseball cup
(which by the way, he leaves in very random places throughout the house).
I love the times when just he and Mark get to go somewhere together because later on,
I see the joy on Mark's face when he tells me:
"Luke is a really neat kid".
 *sigh*
Paige isn't a baby anymore.  GLUP . That was really hard to admit.  I tell her that no matter how old or big she gets, she'll always be my baby.  She still sucks her thumb and loves to cuddle.  She giggles, jumps up and down and claps when she's excited.  She announces when she discovers a new freckle and can't pronounce her "R's".   "Mom, I found a new fweckle wight hewe on my awm"
I love doing a Paige impression....it just makes the story that much cuter!

Dinner time has been hit and miss lately.
Mark has been traveling more often and Luke has baseball games a couple nights a week.
So it was wonderful to sit down to a nice, relaxed dinner together.  Nowhere to go, no plans after dinner, and not one time did I have to say "Hurry up and eat your dinner!"
Because of this relaxed dinner, we were able to actually have an enjoyable conversation with each other!  We started to talk about our physical features and where they came from.
All the kids have freckles, Luke has the most....they got those from Mom.
They all have light hair....that came from Dad.
Riley and Luke have straight teeth......from Dad.
(still not sure what Paige's teeth are going to do. I suspect she will need braces, like me.)
Riley and Luke have brown eyes.....like Mom.
Paige's eyes favor blue.....like Dad.
.....and so on......

I have some pretty amazing kids.
Between the fighting, yelling and tattle telling,
They really are amazing and I love each one of them for their
 unique, God-given personalities.

I can't talk about my awesome kids without acknowledging their daddy.
I love this man!!
He would do anything for our family.
The kids adore him and so do I.
Mark and I are so different in many ways
but we share the same goals and values for our life together.
I thank God every day for putting us together
and for the family He has given us.
We. Are. Blessed.
